As we enter the festive period, the children have been busy creating art work to decorate their room in preparation for Christmas.
Today, the children made paper chains with their early years educators. The early years educators introduced the 3 prime colours which the children eagerly explored. The children used their palmer grasp and pincer grip to use paintbrushes to decorate their chains. The children quickly observed that when they mixed the prime colours, it made a brand new colour which the early years educator named for them. The children dove in to experiment with colour mixing using their hands to squeeze and splattered the paint creating wonderful, unique patterns.

Today, the children in the baby room have been continuing their learning around castles. The early years educators set up a provocation inviting the children to investigate shapes and paint. The early years educators introduced words such as ‘triangle’ and ‘rectangle’ whilst the children explored the different shapes. The children then enthusiastically created their own interpretation of a castle using the paint, practising their fine motor skills, creativity and exploration.

Today at Monkey Puzzle Welling, our pre-school children had a great time using scissors to cut the play dough. The children discussed what they were making with their peers and early years educators, sharing ideas and concentrating on the task whilst their imagination was in full flow
Using scissors helps the children to develop their bi-lateral co-ordination which is imperative for future writing skills and cutting into play dough is less frustrating for children than paper whilst they are mastering this skill.
Well Done to our pre-school children for their continued determination
